Trump Was Welcomed Home from Russia by Protesters Chanting “Traitor”

Trump arrived back at the White House following his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin and was greeted by protesters chanting “traitor” and “Putin’s puppet.” The protest called #OccupyLafayettePark was announced on social media after Trump made his controversial appearance at the press conference with Putin.

Despite the late notice, protesters showed up in front of the White House and began chanting a plethora of anti-Trump chants, including the aforementioned “traitor” and “Putin’s puppet,” as well as “go back to Russia” and “no Trump, no KKK, no fascist U.S.A.” The chants went on well into the night, with some protesters tweeting that they took shifts to keep the chants going. It is unclear how many people attended the impromptu protest but some who attended claimed that “hundreds” showed up once it was announced. Some protesters also claimed that they will keep the protests going until Trump resigns.

The #OccupyLafayettePark protest was in response to Trump’s summit with Putin on Monday. Following their meeting, the two held a press conference where Trump was criticized for refusing to denounce Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election, attacking special counsel Robert Mueller who is conducting the Russia investigation, and blaming tense U.S. and Russia relations on Americans. Trump’s comments came just days after Mueller indicted 12 Russians for their involvement in the meddling. Trump received criticism from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, as well as most major news outlets. It was only fitting that he be welcomed back into America by protesters after he sided with a dictator instead of the U.S.
