Tyler, The Creator Announces New Album Titled IGOR

Tyler, The Creator has announced his fifth studio album IGOR, which arrives on May 17 through Columbia Records. He revealed the album’s title and cover art in a tweet on Monday morning that also included an alternate cover by Lewis Rossignol.

The announcement follows a pair of brief teaser videos that feature snippets of material from the new album.

IGOR will serve as the followup to 2017’s Flower Boy, which was hailed as Tyler’s best album yet and led to his first Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album in 2018 (though he lost out to Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN.). It found Tyler exploring newly personal and mature subject matter over a lush sonic palette that drew from aspects of R&B and neo-soul.

Since Flower Boy, he’s released an EP of songs inspired by his work on 2018’s The Grinch remake, as well as several loose singles, including “OKRA,” “435,” “Peach Fuzz” and a collaboration with A$AP Rocky titled “Potato Salad.” He also contributed production to Solange’s latest album When I Get Home.

Tyler, The Creator first rose to fame at the start of the decade as the ringleader of the Los Angeles rap collective Odd Future. The collective’s wild, youthful energy and brash lyrics attracted both controversy and rabid fandom. Many of its other members also went on to become groundbreaking artists in their own right, including Frank Ocean, Earl Sweatshirt and The Internet’s Syd.
