Watch Charles Bradley Perform at Daytrotter on This Day in 2016
Photo by Shayan AsgharniaThe late, great Charles Bradley was a vessel for unrelenting passion and joy, and his music will always be a force for good for generations to come. Following his death from stomach cancer in 2017, the soul singer released his final album Black Velvet on Daptone Records last November, and it’s a wonderful parting gift from the king of rousing vintage-meets-modern soul music.
On this day in 2016, Bradley put on a stirring performance at Daytrotter in Davenport, Iowa—performing tracks like “The World (Is Going Up In Flames),” “Changes” and “Heartaches and Pain,” which you can watch below.
Last month, a posthumous track titled “Lonely As You Are” was released from what became Bradley’s final recording session. Another track from the session, “Lucifer,” will be released on May 31. In these final recordings, Bradley was backed by Seth Avett and Mike Marsh from the Avett Brothers, along with co-producers James Levy and Paul Defiglia.
