Watch Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds’ Emotive “Jesus Alone” Video

Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds have unveiled the lead track, “Jesus Alone,” from their forthcoming 16th studio album, Skeleton Tree. The single is accompanied by a somber black-and-white clip, taken from Andrew Dominik’s docu-style feature film, One More Time With Feeling, centered around the making of the album.

The video showcases a brooding Cave singing from behind a grand piano while violinist Warren Ellis elegantly conducts a string section, interspersed with scenes of Ellis at the mixing board while Cave grimly stares off into the distance.

Filmed in black-and-white and color, in both 2D and 3D, One More Time With Feeling captures the writing and recording of the album following the tragic death of Cave’s 15-year-old son. “What happens when an event occurs that is so catastrophic that you just change?” the singer asks in the film’s trailer.

The documentary is primarily comprised of Skeleton Tree performances, sprinkled with band interviews and (occasionally improvised) narration from Cave. Originally intended as a one-night-only event, One More Time With Feeling will premiere on Sept. 8, with additional screenings showing through Sept. 11.

Skeleton Tree will be released globally on vinyl, CD and all digital platforms on Sept. 9, following the film’s premiere. Album pre-orders and tickets for the film are available via Nick Cave’s website. Watch the contemplative video for “Jesus Alone” above, and find the Skeleton Tree tracklist here.
