R.LUM.R has a background and set of skills like few others. He’s grounded in old-school R&B and jazz, thanks in part to the fact that he was only allowed to listen to music his mother liked when he was growing up in Bradenton, Florida—think Sade, Anita Baker, George Benson. But he’s also a classically trained acoustic guitarist who grew up listening to and emulating the likes of Julian Bream and Christopher Parkening. As he got older, he started mixing in his own favorites—Prince, Debussy, the Sneaker Pimps, Ravel, Maxwell and Massive Attack, among others. Now a fully fledged musician in his own right, the Nashville-based R.LUM.R has arrived with a debut EP, AFTERIMAGE, with a silken ambience to match his glimmering falsetto.

“I’m a big fan of the song and of songwriting,” he says of his music. “Obviously it isn’t in the traditional sense of what people think of when they think of a singer-songwriter’s music—but that’s where I started, and that’s the same process I go through writing songs.”
