Rejoice, for Oscar winner Jordan Peele’s next film is coming next spring. The writer-director took to Twitter on Tuesday night to share the first poster for his Get Out follow-up, revealing its title and release date. The mysterious Us opens on March 15, 2019.
Though little else is known about the film for now, Variety reports that Lupita Nyong’o, Elisabeth Moss and Winston Duke are in talks to star. Peele will, of course, write and direct Us—based on recent comments, we can expect another thriller in the vein of Get Out, though Peele has said the film will “address something different than race.” Peele will produce Us for his Monkeypaw Productions with Jason Blum, Sean McKittrick and Monkeypaw’s Ian Cooper. Universal Pictures, with whom Peele has a first-look deal, will distribute the film, as they did Get Out.
Peele won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for his sensational work on Get Out, becoming the first African-American writer to earn those honors. Paste named the film the very best of 2017. Get Out grossed $255 million worldwide against a budget of only $4.5 million, making Peele the first black writer-director to gross more than $100 million with their feature film directorial debut. Get Out was also nominated for Best Picture, along with a Best Director nod for Peele and a Best Actor nod for star Daniel Kaluuya. Peele was only the third filmmaker in history to receive Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Director and Screenplay for his feature debut.
