New Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Patch Adds … VR?

The latest 3.1.0 update for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate just added VR. But the catch? You can only use it if you have the Labo kit.

Ultimate is now the latest Nintendo Switch game to support virtual reality through the cardboard Labo headset after Super Mario Odyssey got a few VR levels that threw us back to the days of Super Mario 3D Land. The Toy-Con VR goggles are sold separately as part of the Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 04: VR Kit.

Since the Labo VR is designed for short bursts of play and is basically a cardboard box you hold up to your face, the VR update is pretty limited. You can only play in single-player and can only fight AI opponents—or you can take a backseat and just watch computer-controlled characters battle in virtual reality.

With a game as chaotic and kinetic as this brawler, these limits might be a blessing in disguise, or else it would cause some serious motion sickness.

But it’s still a free update, so if you already have the Labo VR, why not check it out for novelty’s sake?
