Julia Jacklin Officially Releases Her Well-Loved Take on The Strokes' "Someday"

Two years after debuting her gentle, woozy cover of The Strokes’ “Someday” on triple j’s Like A Version, Australian crooner Julia Jacklin has officially released the performance via Polyvinyl Records.

You could call it alt-country, you could call it folky doo-wop, but whatever it is, it’s heartbreaking and hypnotic. Jacklin’s rendition strips back Albert Hammond Jr.’s jangling for slow, lingering strumming and layers vocal harmonies on top of a languid, melodic bass.

Her take on the 2001 garage-rock staple is certainly well-loved: The cover currently clocks in at 1.8 million views on YouTube, so it makes sense why the musician would add it to her official discography.

Check out the new release, Jacklin’ triple j performance and her 2019 Paste Studio session below. You can revisit our March chat with Jacklin here.
