A24 is known for putting out films that dazzle with originality and, in the cases of The Witch, Hereditary and Midsommar, can seriously disturb. It seems that the distributors will be staying true to that theme in 2020 with the debut film from writer-director Rose Glass, Saint Maud.
The story, which is described as a “chilling vision of faith, madness and salvation in a fallen world,” follows Maud (Morfydd Clark), a newly devout hospice nurse hellbent on saving her dying patient’s (Jennifer Ehle) soul. The trailer is unnerving without being overly revelatory and set to a smartly edited mumble of Billie Eilish’s “all the good girls go to hell.” It becomes quickly apparent that Maud hasn’t always been a model of piety, and some of her behavior leans from saintly into satanic. After watching the trailer, you’re going to have to wait until the film’s scheduled spring 2020 release to know what Maud did and find out what she will do.
Additional cast members for Saint Maud include Lilly Frazer, Lily Knight, Marcus Hutton, Turlough Convery and Rosie Sansom. Watch the grisly trailer below.
