Christmas Zombie Musical Anna and the Apocalypse Is Getting a Novel Adaptation

Later this year, Orion Pictures will be releasing its (all together now) British teen Christmas zombie musical comedy Anna and the Apocalypse in the U.S., but first, we’re getting a novel adaptation.

The novel will expand the journey of straight-A student Anna Shepherd, who’s navigating her mother’s death, high school drama, boys and her plans after graduation, as well as the impending zombie invasion that’s set to disrupt the holiday season. From what we can tell, there are unfortunately no songs in the novel adaptation.

Based on the original screenplay by Alan McDonald and late Anna and the Apocalypse creator Ryan McHenry, of “Ryan Gosling Won’t Eat His Cereal” fame, the adaptation is an all-new horror-comedy novel from co-authors Katherine Turner and Barry Waldo.

Anna and the Apocalypse is a wonderfully realized world, full of strong characters, epic friendships and gripping adventure,” said co-authors Turner and Waldo in a statement. “The book gave us the chance to delve deeper into relatable, kick-ass characters and really dig into their lives and relationships. The Anna universe is so full of heart and so much fun to explore, it was just a gift to us as writers. It’s definitely the best zombie high school Christmas horror comedy book we’ve ever written!’

Anna and the Apocalypse’s loopy premise could make for an entertaining read in novel form, and you won’t have to wait long to check it out.

Anna and the Apocalypse is now available for preorder ahead of its arrival in bookstores on Oct. 23.
