Slaughterhouse-Five Will Soon Get Its Own Comic Book

Kurt Vonnegut said it best: “All this happened, more or less.” Vonnegut’s celebrated 1969 anti-war novel, Slaughterhouse-Five, will be adapted into a glossy graphic novel. Boom! Studios announced the plans Wednesday, tapping a talented team, including Eisner Award-winning writer Ryan North and artist Albert Monteys, with color assistance from Ricard Zaplana. The publisher has set a September 2020 release date.

North, who has written for comics such as Adventure Time and Squirrel Girl, discussed his admiration for Vonnegut in a statement, saying, “Kurt Vonnegut has been one of my favorite writers since I first read his books decades ago, and it’s been such an honor and challenge to adapt his most famous work for a new medium.”

Boom! seems similarly thrilled, judging by a statement from Sierra Hahn, executive editor: “The trust and support shown by the Vonnegut family [in the production of this adaptation] is gratifying for everyone who poured their hearts into ensuring we could best represent Kurt Vonnegut’s seminal work while creating something new in the graphic novel space. We believe we’ve created a gateway book for new Vonnegut readers and a book any longtime fan will admire and want on their shelves.”
