Dave Chappelle in New Equanimity Clip: Donald Trump Is “Fighting for Me”
Photo by Mathieu BittonNetflix has put out a new clip from Dave Chappelle’s forthcoming standup special, Equanimity, and it gives Chappelle an opportunity to sound off on a hot-button issue: Trump voters.
In the clip, Chappelle tells his audience about voting in the 2016 election. He says he stood in line with Trump voters, certain that their candidate would fight for them in Washington. Taking a drag from his vape, Chappelle says he remembers thinking, “you dumb motherfucker,” before telling the audience who Trump is really fighting for: people as rich as Chappelle.
This isn’t the first time Chappelle has dipped his toe into political waters, nor is it his first Netflix comedy special. His previous hours, Deep in the Heart of Texas and The Age of Spin, contained some frustratingly ignorant messages, so let’s hope this one is better. Netflix certainly seems to think so, given the amount of advertising it has filmed for it.
Dave Chappelle: Equanimity comes out on Netflix Dec. 31.
