Get Ready for a David S. Pumpkins Animated Halloween Special
Image via NBCDavid S. Pumpkins is a polarizing figure. Some people love the nonsensical character played by Tom Hanks on SNL. Other find him inane and unfunny.
Well, chalk up a win for the former, because David S. Pumpkins is getting an animated Halloween special from NBC. Hanks will return, both to appear on-camera and to voice the character. Peter Dinklage is set to co-star.
“It’s scary how quickly the original SNL sketch caught on, and we’re thrilled that Tom Hanks is back to keep the fun going,” said George Cheeks, NBC Entertainment and Universal Television’s President of Business Operations and Late Night Programming, in a statement.
The special’s synopsis is as follows:
Set in a small suburban town on All Hallows’ Eve, the special centers on David Pumpkins and his skeleton sidekicks who show a young boy and his sister the true meaning of Halloween, answering none of their questions along the way.
Bento Box Entertainment—the studio behind Bob’s Burgers, Brickleberry and others—will animate the special, while original sketch creators Mikey Day, Streeter Seidell and Bobby Moynihan will write and produce. Lorne Michaels will executive produce, as he does.
The special will air Oct. 28 at 11:30 p.m. EDT/PDT.
