Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers Weigh in on Trump’s Revealing Press Conference
Images via CBS, NBCBoth Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers—two of late night’s most vital political voices—were in complete agreement on Donald Trump’s horrifying, revealing Wednesday press conference: It showed us, once again, who Trump really is. And who is that? “A lying racist,” says Meyers.
Colbert’s monologue and Meyers’ latest “A Closer Look” segment both focused on the public relations rollercoaster that Trump has been riding since the weekend’s events in Charlottesville, as he went from blaming “many sides” for the conflict, to belatedly (and begrudgingly) condemning white supremacists, neo-Nazis and the KKK, to finally letting his mask of decency slip and defensively equating literal Nazis to counter-protestors and Black Lives Matter activists, a sickening statement that he has, of course, since claimed that he never made.

No matter how low the bar gets set for Trump, he’ll still find a way to slither underneath it. Recounting Richard Spencer’s praise for Trump’s presser, in which the alt-right figurehead said, “Trump’s statement was fair and down to earth,” Colbert agrees: “Yes, down to earth. Because at this point, it’s impossible for Donald Trump to sink any lower.” Let’s hope so …
