John Oliver returned to the dominant issue of the day in last night’s episode of Last Week Tonight , looking at how the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has impacted the labor market. You might’ve guessed, but no, it ain’t all that pretty. Between a confused roll-out of small business and payroll protections, insufficient safeguards for essential workers, and unemployment systems throughout the country collapsing under the weight of new requests, the reality of today’s situation doesn’t come close to reflecting Donald Trump’s routinely self-aggrandizing assessments. Oliver argues that Trump’s government is once again dropping the ball, with real people being hurt once again, and in typical Oliver fashion, it’s both convincing and (sadly, darkly, depressingly) hilarious. Check it out below.
