John Oliver Returns to Compare Clinton’s Scandals to Trump’s

John Oliver is looking to keep things in perspective. During a segment on Last Week Tonight, the HBO show host took about 20 minutes to compare the scandals that presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have accumulated over the course of their professional lives.

Taking on Clinton first, Oliver discussed her email scandal and the Clinton Foundation. In discussing each in detail, Oliver pointed out that, while things may look bad for Clinton, it’s really got much more to do with how bad it looks than how bad it actually is. “We’ve spent several frustrating weeks trolling through all the exaggeration surrounding her email and foundation scandals, and the worst thing you can say is ‘they both look bad, but the harder you look, the less you actually find,’” Oliver said.

As for Trump, Oliver first points out that the Republican nominee has yet to release his tax returns. He then goes deep on the numerous other issues surrounding the candidate. Oliver brings up everything from Trump’s own foundation to his lack of a clear plan for his company should he become President.

In comparing the scandals faced by Clinton and Trump, he likens them to raisins in a cookie. “They shouldn’t be there, they disgust people,” said Oliver. “But most politicians have at least a few raisins, and Hillary … has more raisins than average.” Even so, Clinton’s raisins pale in comparison to Trump’s.

Last Week Tonight returned from a month-long break last night to knock some sense into America.
