Kevin Hart, Hasan Minhaj Receive 2019 Just For Laughs Comedy Awards

Montreal-based entertainment company Just For Laughs has announced the 2019 recipients of its 12th annual awards show recognizing today’s most influential comedic voices.

This year’s Just For Laughs Awards recipients include Kevin Hart, Jim Jefferies and Hasan Minhaj, with Amanda Seales taking home Rising Comedy Star of the Year, and Nick Kroll, Andrew Goldberg, Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett receiving Comedy Writers of the Year for their work on Netflix’s Big Mouth.

Hart, a veteran of the Montreal-based comedy festival, is set to receive the Generation Award, a title reserved for “recognizing unparalleled contributions to the world of comedy by artists whose work paves the way for a new generation of comedians.”

Recently named one of the top five touring comedians in the world, Australian stand-up comedian and Comedy Central’s The Jim Jefferies Show host Jefferies will receive the Stand-Up Comedian of the Year Award. Between FX’s Legit and many, many Netflix specials, Jefferies’ established comedy career spans nearly a decade and a half.

One of the up-and-coming comedians selected to perform at JFL’s New Faces showcase in 2014, Minhaj has come full circle to accept the Breakout Comedy Star of the Year Award for his recent work on Netflix’s Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj. Minhaj’s longtime Daily Show peer Trevor Noah is set to present the award.

Set during the three-day long Just For Laughs ComedyPRO Festival, the Just For Laughs Awards will take place on July 26 with NBC’s Last Comic Standing Alonzo Bodden handling hosting duties.
