Kristin Wiig Heads Back to Television in Reese Witherspoon-Produced Apple Comedy Series

Kristin Wiig is returning to television in Apple’s first-ever half-hour comedy series. The untitled series will be produced by Reese Witherspoon and executive produced by Wiig, and will feature ten episodes. Colleen McGuinness of 30 Rock will serve as the series’ showrunner and will also executive produce. The project is inspired by Curtis Sittenfeld’s forthcoming short story collection You Think It, I’ll Say It. There is no studio attached to the project yet and Apple does not own the rights to the series, according to THR.

Wiig took a break from television after seven seasons on SNL, where she made some of the most memorable characters on the show. In the meantime, she starred in several feature films, including the most recent Downsizing, Ghostbusters, The Martian, Bridesmaids and many others. Wiig also wrote the screenplay for Bridesmaids, earning her an Oscar nomination for writing.

Witherspoon has been quite busy with Apple recently, as this new series marks the third collaboration between the two. First, Witherspoon joins Jennifer Aniston in an untitled morning show drama and second, she joins the podcast drama Are You Sleeping with Octavia Spencer. Altogether, this marks the fifth scripted series for Apple, including the Steven Spielberg-produced Amazing Stories.
