Mike Judge to Create New Animated Series for Cinemax

Cinemax just ordered a new animated series from veteran cult-favorite Mike Judge, creator of King of the Hill, Beavis and Butt-Head, writer for Silicon Valley and writer/director of Office Space, Deadline reports. Titled Mike Judge Presents: Tales from the Tour Bus, the show will tackle some of country music’s most eccentric characters.

Now, whether this will look anything like some of the guest star turns in King of the Hill is anyone’s guess. But Judge is well known for finding fun in eccentricity. Dale Gribble is clearly a study in eccentricity all on his own. (Full disclosure: that link will take you to a mashup of some of the very best Dale Gribble moments. You’re most welcome.)

Tales from the Tour Bus will mark Cinemax’s first foray into an original comedy series, marking a recalibration in their original programming format to include fun, pulpy, high-energy and high-action series that will be cost-effective for the network. Cinemax programming president Kary Antholis, when asked if the half-hour, eight-episode comedy series would fit into the new programming direction, told Deadline, “Yes, I’m open to half-hours, but we’ve got to be able to do them at a price and … it has to be on brand for Cinemax.”

Mike Judge Presents: Tales from the Tour Bus is set to premiere later this year.
