Nicholas Stoller and Francesca Delbanco are writing and producing a new show for Netflix, titled Friends from College. The show will star Keegan-Michael Key, Cobie Smulders, Annie Parisse, Nat Faxon, Fred Savage and Jae Suh Park.
Stoller will direct all eight episodes of the new show, which follows the titular group of college friends who are now in their 40s and dealing with their successes and failures, both personal and professional. The show is being described as a comedy, but based on Stoller’s previous track record and the subject matter at hand, expect a healthy dose of genuine character drama to go along with the laughs.
Stoller, who wrote The Muppets and directed Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Neighbors, is responsible for some of the funniest and smartest comedies of the last decade, so pairing him up with Keegan-Michael Key and Cobie Smulders sounds like a foolproof idea. Plus, Netflix is the perfect place for them to do what they do best.
We’re in for a bit of a wait, though: Friends from College doesn’t even begin filming until sometime this fall, so it might have to be your favorite show of 2017.
