Watch Samantha Bee Define “Covfefe,” Commend Trump for Uniting Country By Confusing Everyone

Donald Trump has worn many hats. He’s been a TV show host, a walking reminder that fake tans never turn out the way you want them to and—no matter how much you try to convince yourself that the election was a fever dream—is now the president of the United States. Despite barely having time to squeeze in very important tweets about department stores during an intelligence briefing, Trump has swiftly added neologist to his long line of life accomplishments.

Even Canadian import and human ray of sunshine Samantha Bee, one of his biggest primetime opponents, had to hand it to him. The Full Frontal host commended Trump for fulfilling one of his campaign promises of bringing the country together, uniting us all as we tried to decipher what the fuck “covfefe” meant after he tweeted the word in a frenzy.

“Last night, for five blessed hours, Donald J. Trump made America truly great,” says Bee of the glorious chunk of time in which the tweet was live, “And he spelled it right. ‘V’ before ‘e’ except after ‘z.’” The host also used a montage of Mad Max: Fury Road references to discuss his first foreign trip as president. It’s amazing how frighteningly accurate a rapidly deteriorating swatch of land run by power-hungry, ugly white men parallels the 2015 film.

Of course, the most logical route Trump could take to ensure this blows over is to own up to horrendously misspelling “coverage” and not catching it until it was way, way too late. But would he even be Donald Trump if he didn’t respond by acting as if the word is some sort of National Treasure code that Nicholas Cage could use to unlock the secrets of our government? “Covfefe” made a reappearance on Trump’s Twitter hours later when he questioned (or challenged?) who could “figure out the true meaning” of the word. Press Secretary Sean Spicer acted as if the tweet was business as usual, saying, “The president and a small group of people know exactly what he meant.” Sure, Spicey. Of course, we here at Paste can’t be fooled and have already unlocked the secret Russian meaning behind the word.
