Chance the Rapper Stars in an ’80s Anti-Drug PSA in SNL‘s Latest Cut for Time Sketch

Chance the Rapper is the latest musician to establish himself as a comedy star through SNL hosting gigs, with his second turn at the show’s helm providing an early season highlight this past Saturday night. Chance doesn’t just coast on his sizable charisma—his timing and delivery are usually great, and he throws himself into every role, no matter how ridiculous it might be.

Not every one of his sketches could make it to air on Saturday, though. Here’s a sketch that was cut for time starring Chance and Kenan Thompson as the Sober Brothers, a pair of anti-drug PSA stars in the ‘80s. Let’s just say that one of them is a little more committed to sobriety than the other. Once again SNL has the look of the ‘80s down pat, with period-perfect outfits, and lands the stilted cadence and unnatural dialogue of a public service announcement. It’s still easy to see why this sketch was the one that was cut for time—this dress rehearsal performance doesn’t land many big laughs, and the timing seems a little bit off throughout. Still, it’s worth watching, and you can check it out below.
