Seth Meyers Returns, Taking “A Closer Look” at Team Trump’s Absurd Defenses for Don Jr.’s Emails

Seth Meyers has consistently used his show to rage against the Trump machine. Frequently, his “A Closer Look” segments delve into the most recent Trump scandal or outrage. As you can imagine, he’s never desperate for content.

Meyers’ first segment after a two-week hiatus focuses in on the Donald Jr. email scandal. Before he digs into that, though, Seth first makes fun of Trump’s most recent awkward handshake with French President Macron and, simultaneously, Macron’s wife. He likens the encounter to “a bunch virgins at an orgy,” trying to figure out what to do.

After that graphic visual image and a few comments about Trump’s fascination with big trucks, cowboy hats and literally transparent walls, Meyers digs into those emails. Meyers points out the ridiculous, ever-changing nature of Trump Jr.’s description of his meeting with a Russian lawyer. His story changed on four separate occasions, culminating with the assertion that it was okay because the meeting happened “before the current Russian fever was in vogue.” Meyers laughs at the word choice of “in vogue,” noting that “it’s a criminal conspiracy to meddle in an election, not a RompHim.” The clip goes on to dismantle all of the Trump team’s various, conflicting defenses of the situation in typically hilarious fashion.
