Watch Stephen Colbert (and “Stephen Colbert”) Say Bon Voyage to Bill O’Reilly

After many years of sexual harassment accusations, Bill O’Reilly is out of a job at Fox News, and Stephen Colbert, like many of us, couldn’t be happier. Colbert, to his credit, is decent enough to keep his gloating over the host’s firing off-camera. But at the same time, as Colbert pointed out on last night’s Late Show, he himself owes a lot to the “self-righteous landfill of angry garbage” that is O’Reilly—”I spent over nine years playing a character based largely on [O’Reilly], and then 12 months in therapy to de-bloviate myself,” he said.

To pay proper tribute to his muse, Colbert brings in his Colbert Report alter ego via satellite, and “Stephen Colbert” laments our having failed O’Reilly, as well as the state of “Obama’s Trump’s America,” a wayward nation of snowflakes in which sexual harassment is considered a crime. He then extends an invitation to the former Fox News host, urging him to join “Colbert” and Jon Stewart at the mountain cabin where they apparently are spending their retirements. “Stay strong, Papa Bear,” he urges before breaking down in satirical tears.

After that, it’s back to standard-issue Stephen Colbert, who still has a few more zingers to send O’Reilly’s way before moving on to other news … such as, you know, the accused sexual harasser in the White House.
