Netflix Orders Two New Vir Das Comedy Specials

Comedian Vir Das will be following up Abroad Understanding, his first Netflix original special, with two additional live stand-up comedy specials, the streamer announced on Monday. When Abroad Understanding premiered in April 2017, Das became the first stand-up comedian out of India to have an original special on Netflix.

The first of the two new specials will be shot in San Francisco, adding a third city to Das’ specials’ settings—Abroad Understanding was filmed in both New York and New Dehli, capturing part of the nationalism and globalism he addresses just in its creative framing.

Das is no stranger to acting, with film credits in several Bollywood films, including Delhi Belly, Badmaash Company and Go Goa Gone, and he is set to star in Whiskey Cavalier, a forthcoming ABC action-dramedy series. His co-stars in the David Hemingson-written show include Scott Foley, Ana Ortiz and Lauren Cohan.

Coming off a year of touring, having performed stand-up in 35 different cities, the first of Das’ two new specials will be filmed on July 14 at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco, Calif.

No word yet on when Das’ new specials will stream on Netflix.
