DE85wqSV0AEtnFo.jpg-large.jpegNot content to merely travel the world and dominate television as one of the most adventurous and influential chefs working today, Anthony Bourdain returns for his third course of comics in January with Hungry Ghosts, a four-issue supernatural horror anthology drawn by some of the best in the business and published under the Berger Books imprint, founding Vertigo editor Karen Berger’s new venture at Dark Horse Comics.

Inspired by the Japanese Edo-period tradition known as Hyakumonogatari Kaidankai, in which samurai attempt to scare each other with spooky tales, Hungry Ghosts transports that concept to a group of chefs tasked by a Russian oligarch with spinning culinary horror stories. The mini-series will feature art from Paul Pope, Vanesa R. Del Rey, Alberto Ponticelli, Mateus Santolouco and more, and will reunite Bourdain with his Get Jiro! co-writer Joel Rose. Issue #1 hits stands January 31st, and Paste has an early peek at preview pages from Ponticelli, featuring color work from the award-winning Jose Villarrubia.
