Exclusive: Bryan Talbot & Mary M. Talbot Reunite for Rain at Dark Horse Comics

There aren’t too many husband-and-wife teams within comics, which makes Bryan Talbot and Mary M. Talbot’s collaborations all the more unique. Mary M. Talbot was an established academic writer of nearly two decades before she turned her focus toward comics, while her pioneering husband Bryan Talbot began publishing alternative comics in the late ‘60s, eventually producing iconic works including The Adventures of Luther Arkwright, The Tale of One Bad Rat and segments of The Sandman.

Together, the Talbots have created the award-winning Dotter of Her Father’s Eyes, The Red Virgin and the Vision of Utopia and Sally Heathcote: Suffragette (with Kate Charlesworth). Today, Paste can exclusively announce the next original graphic novel from Mary M. Talbot and Bryan Talbot: Rain, coming this fall from Dark Horse Comics.

Rain chronicles the budding relationship between two young women, one an environmental activist, set against the disastrous 2015 floods in northern England. The local wild Brontë moorlands are being criminally mismanaged, crops are being poisoned and birds and animals are being slaughtered. The characters may be fictional, but the tragedies are shockingly real.

Published in hardcover, landscape-format, Rain hits stores October 11, 2019, and retails for $24.99. Take a look at Bryan Talbot’s cover art below, and check back with Paste throughout the year for more on Dark Horse Comics.
