Dark Horse Announces New Line of Books Overseen by Vertigo Founder Karen Berger

Dark Horse announced today that Karen Berger, founder and former editor of DC imprint Vertigo, will oversee Berger Books, their new line of creator-owned comics and graphic novels. The publisher made the announcement at retailer event ComicsPro, where Berger was also the winner of the ComicsPRO Industry Appreciation Award.

After founding Vertigo in 1993, Berger ran the company for two decades and published more than 300 titles, including Preacher, Sandman, Swamp Thing, Y: The Last Man, Hellblazer and 100 Bullets. Most recently, she’s been working on Image Comics’ Surgeon X series.

Along with the announcement, Berger offered a bit of praise for her new publishing partner:

Dark Horse has been at the frontline of independent, creator-owned comics for decades. It’s great to be working with a company who has such a rich history of publishing scores of many incredible books by some of the best writers and artists in comics. I’m very fired up about being back in the game in a big way, and to be producing this new line with top, diverse creative talent and exciting original new voices.
