Exclusive Preview: Neil Gaiman’s The Problem of Susan and Other Stories Comes to Life at Dark Horse Comics

It’s been a while since modern mythmaker Neil Gaiman has put pen to paper (or finger to keyboard) for a brand-new original comic tale, but his presence is alive and well on shelves. DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint resurrected (with Gaiman’s oversight) the Sandman Universe last summer, while Dark Horse Comics continues to publish P. Craig Russell and Scott Hampton’s ongoing adaptation of American Gods, along with standalone graphic novels interpreting Gaiman’s most beloved prose into sequential art. A Study in Emerald, How to Talk to Girls at Parties and Likely Stories are just a few of the entries in Dark Horse’s Neil Gaiman Library, and later this month they’ll be joined by The Problem of Susan and Other Stories, adapted by Russell, Hampton, Paul Chadwick and colorist Lovern Kindzierski.

Longtime Gaiman readers should recognize the stories that inspired these four shorts, two adapted from prose and two from poems, including fan-favorite “The Day the Saucers Came.” Frequent Gaiman collaborators Russell and Hampton—along with Concrete legend Chadwick—add their own visual spins to the existing text, making the volume a worthwhile read for new and returning readers alike.
