Songs Illustrated: Against Me!’s “Delicate, Petite & Other Things I’ll Never Be” by Robbi Rodriguez

In Songs Illustrated, we enlist our favorite comic book artists and cartoonists to translate songs into sequential art. In this special edition, Federal Bureau of Physics and Spider-Gwen artist Robbi Rodriguez transforms Against Me!’s taut anthem “Delicate, Petite & Other Things I’ll Never Be” into a wartime exploration of empathy. The comic reframes lead singer Laura Jane Grace’s quest for self-identity through a chance encounter between a weapon of destruction and a casualty of battle, defined in fluorescent blues and kinetic linework.
