Brewery Ommegang, Anchor Brewing Bet on Tonight’s Mets/Giants Game
Photo via Twitter (@BreweryOmmegang)The New York Mets and the San Francisco Giants are playing each other tonight in the MLB National League Wild Card game to determine which team will advance to play the Chicago Cubs in the Divisional Series. There’s a lot riding on this game, and two brewing companies have made a bet to raise the stakes even further.
In a Twitter exchange this morning, the Cooperstown-based Brewery Ommegang bet San Francisco’s Anchor Brewing that the Mets would win the game. The loser will have to wear the winning team’s jersey and pour a beer from the winning brewery in their tasting room, along with sending their brewmaster to the winning brewery to brew a beer in honor of the winning team and city.
Anchor Brewing president Matt Davenport said in a statement:
Baseball and San Francisco have gone hand in hand for more than 100 years. With roots that date back to the California Gold Rush, Anchor has been intrinsically tied to the city, enjoyed by Giants fans for decades. We look forward to sharing our beer with Ommegang fans in Cooperstown, as we send some tasty West Coast [read: Best Coast] brews to be enjoyed in their taproom. It’s an even year and we all know what that means.
