Eight Kickstarter Booze Projects

Everyone loves a good upstart, and everyone loves a good beer. We’ve scoured Kickstarter and found eight booze-related crowd-funding projects worth your time, and maybe your money.

Beer Blizzard

The Gist: A reusable ice cube shaped like the bottom of a beer can. It’s plastic, filled with fast-freezing liquid. Simply put the Beer Blizzard at the bottom of a koozie and place your beer on top.
The Funding: Well-funded with almost $30,000 pledged.
End Date: June 9, 2014

HopBox

The Gist: A stylish home brewing kit that includes everything you need to brew your first batch of beer. It’s all hand-built out of rustic pine. You can choose from four different models which will enable you to brew 10-30 beers at a time.
The Funding: Well-funded with almost $115,000 pledged.
End Date: May 31, 2014

Shindig

The Gist: It’s an app (or mobile community, if you will) that enables drinkers to keep track of all the drinks they try in a mobile journal. You can follow brewmasters, writers and other drinkers to discover new drinks and keep a list of drinks you want to try. One of the best features—you can search your area for a specific drink.
The Funding: They’re almost to their $18,000 goal with just few days to go.
End Date: May 23, 2014

Hop Top

The Gist: A beer growler preservation system that uses a CO2 regulator to purge air from the head space above the beer after opening the growler. You can even dial in various CO2 pressures to adjust it to your own personal taste. You can use it for other beverages, but let’s be real. It’s for beer.
The Funding: Still a ways to go, just $3,400 of the $77,000 needed.
End Date: June 2, 2014

Mason Shaker

The Gist: It’s a Mason Jar cocktail shaker. Yep. Simple, but sometimes, the best ideas are just that.
The Funding: Successfully funded. The founders of Mason Shaker went to Kickstarter for $5,000 to jumpstart the first order of shakers. More than $74,000 was pledged.
Get One: The dudes behind Mason Shaker have expanded into all kind of bar accessories. We’re talking muddlers here. Find the goods here.

Standard Spoon

The Gist: It’s a bar spoon, but it’s designed to spin freely in your fingers, reducing wrist motion. It’s all about carpal tunnel, people.
The Funding: Successfully funded this past February.
Get One: You can order one starting this summer here.

The Cold Can

The Gist: ColdCan uses “spacesuit” insulating technology to keep your cans frigid. I don’t know how they do it. They mention a thermal insulating “Cryogel” and “Cryolok” universal fittings. It’s very complex. It might just be easier to drink your beer faster.
The Funding: So far, about $12,000 towards their $80,000 goal.
End Date: June 3, 2014

Whereabout

The Gist: It’s a would-be bike tour company that offers plush, safari-style accommodations for bikers as they travel from winery to winery. They’re looking to fund a bathroom/shower trailer to support their nomadic bike/winery village in the Central California Coast.
The Funding: Roughly $2,000 of the $12,000 needed.
End Date: May 25, 2014
