Diageo Announces Final Game of Thrones Scotch Whisky, Mortlach’s 15-Year-Old “Six Kingdoms”
Photos via DiageoDiageo’s Game of Thrones Limited Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection proved to be a smashing success for the global liquor giant in the last few years, as fans of the HBO series—even as it wrapped itself up in a conclusion that seemed to please almost no one—went out of their way to snap up limited edition releases from classic distilleries that were dedicated to the likes of House Stark, House Greyjoy and House Lannister. Now, the series will finally come to an end with the announcement of one final whiskey, Six Kingdoms, which is the ninth bottle in the series.
Wrapped in a metallic gold cannister, this is a 15-year-old release from Speyside distillery Mortlach, matured in first-fill sherry seasoned casks. According to Diageo, it “pays tribute to the fate of Westeros and the harrowing journey of one of the show’s most powerful characters,” in the form of eventual Westerosi king Bran Stark. More detail from Diageo:
Just in time for the holidays, the perfect gift arrives for those whose love of Game of Thrones endures. The bottling, a Mortlach Single Malt Scotch Whisky that has been aged for 15 years, is presented in a metallic gold cannister that features an intricate pen and ink drawing of the three-eyed raven as seen throughout the eight seasons of the series. The Six Kingdoms packaging pays homage to the last Greenseer, whose ability to see beyond the constraints of time and unravel the intricate stories that held the tapestry of Westeros together proved to be his ultimate power.
Not a bad way to salvage the weirdness of Bran ending up on the throne, right? The name “Six Kingdoms” is likewise a nod to the fact that The North will remain its own, independent kingdom by Bran’s decree.
As for the whiskey itself, this particular bottling weighs in at 46% ABV (92 proof), and as mentioned above was matured in first-fill, sherry-seasoned casks and finished in American ex-bourbon. It carries an SRP of $150, and will hit shelves in Dec. 2019, although quantities will be quite limited. Expect for this to be among the hottest limited release Christmas gifts out there for Got nerds.
