If you’re not familiar with the game of cornhole, it’s the best (if most unfortunately named) of the lawn sports, just nudging out ladder golf and bocce ball. Two teams of two take turns tossing bean bags at a sloped board with a hole in it. A bag on the board is worth one point and a bag in the hole is worth three. Part of the fun is knocking the other players bags off the board and knocking your own into the hole. I’ve found that my tosses are much more accurate when I have a bottle of beer in my non-throwing hand (for balance, of course).
But not every day is filled with barbecue, sunshine and a backyard full of friends, so that’s where Cornhole All-Stars comes in. This iPhone app from Jufti is one of four apps I found that bring the classic tailgating game to the little screen. You can choose your among four cartoon players and venues ranging from a front yard to a graveyard. You toss the bags with either a flick of the finger or by swinging your iPhone like you would a Wii controller (or an actual beanbag). I find the latter gives you more control. Plus it frees your non-tossing hand for a beer. Just make sure you don’t let go. The 99-cent app could be a lot more costly with your iPhone sailing through the air.
