Moira Is Overwatch‘s Newest Hero

Overwatch has its 26th playable character. Blizzard unveiled Moira O’Deorain, a brilliant, ambitious and powerful geneticist, at their own BlizzCon event. Moira is a support hero capable of dealing massive damage to enemies while also healing allies—both actions utilizing special orbs of her design.

The Overwatch website details her abilities: her “Biotic Grasp” unleashes a beam (similar to Symmetra’s weapon) that either drains enemy health or heals teammates, depending on the target, similar to Ana. “Biotic Orbs” can be launched to create a decay effect on enemies or regenerate health to allies, not too dissimilar from Zenyatta’s own orbs. Moira can teleport short distances with an ability called “Fade,” which is slightly reminiscent of movement capabilities of Reaper and Sombra. Finally, her Ultimate Ability “Coalescence” is a massive Dragonball-looking beam that damages enemies, even past barriers and shields, and heals her teammates.

Moira is a controversial scientist within the game’s lore, “searching for a way to rewrite the fundamental building blocks of life.” Moira eventually lost credibility amongst her peers, and found herself working for Blackwatch, the covert ops division of Overwatch. After Overwatch disbanded, it is said that the shady Talon organization continued to support her work.

Moira will be available on the PC-only Public Test Region shortly, with a full release to PC and consoles coming at a yet-to-be-announced later date. Check out her trailer below, along with a look at the game’s new map “Blizzard World.”
