Watch the Gameplay Trailer for Mario and Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games for Wii U

As it did with London and Sochi, Nintendo has created a companion game to this year’s 2016 Rio Olympics. Mario and Sonic At The Rio 2016 Olympic Games pits the two rival characters and their many friends together in a series of sports simulations that do a great job of in no way reflecting the actual athletic experience.

A portable 3DS version of the game released earlier in March, but the Wii U version will see its worldwide release tomorrow. Nintendo published this trailer yesterday to preview the Heroes Showdown mode, which creates a multi-sport tournament based on the once-contentious rivalry between Nintendo and Sega’s flagship characters. Watch it above.

It’s too bad the developers didn’t think to include the University of Tübingen’s self-aware Mario in order to further capture the Olympics experience, complete with post-match interviews and press conferences.
