Creators of Serial Announce New Podcast, S-Town

Ok, it’s time to put your deerstalker hats back on to try and solve a new murder mystery. And no, it isn’t season three of Serial quite yet, although we are ready for that. The producers of the acclaimed true-crime podcast Serial and NPR’s This American Life are bringing us a new true-crime series set in rural Alabama, called S-Town.

Several years ago, an Alabama man contacted This American Life with a tip about the son of wealthy man that bragged about getting away with murder. And then there was a second death, followed by “a nasty feud, a hunt for hidden treasure and the mysteries of one man’s life.”

“We’re harnessing the incredible reporting and editing talent of This American Life and Serial and throwing it toward the creation of new shows,” said Julie Snyder, co-creator of Serial alongside Sarah Koenig and S-Town executive producer, in a statement. “Brian and I began working on the S-Town story three years ago, before we’d even launched Serial, and immediately I knew it was special.”

“This story takes so many unexpected turns,” said Ira Glass in a press release. “Every episode is a new surprise. And the story has this feeling and mood that’s different from anything else we’ve done. I don’t think people have heard a show like this.”

Hosted by long-time This American Life producer Brian Reed, S-Town is one of three podcasts that are being launched by their newly announced Serial Productions. There are no details on the other two yet.

All episodes of S-Town will be released simultaneously in March.
