Gugu Mbatha-Raw Cast in Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time

Movies News A Wrinkle In Time

A Wrinkle in Time just got even more exciting. The Ava DuVernay-directed project’s makers have announced Gugu Mbatha-Raw will join the cast of the film. A Wrinkle in Time is set up at Disney, with a script written by Frozen’s Jennifer Lee.

Adapted from Madeleine L’Engle’s 1963 young adult book of the same name, A Wrinkle in Time follows a young girl whose father goes missing while he’s working on a government project called the tesseract. With the help of three celestial beings, the young girl sets out to find her father alongside her brother and friend.

Mbatha-Raw is joining a cast already stacked with talents like Oprah Winfrey (Mrs. Which), Mindy Kaling (Mrs. Who) and Reese Witherspoon (Mrs. Whatsit). Storm Reid will play Meg Murry, the young girl at the film’s center, with Mbatha-Raw set to play her mother. The role of her father has yet to be cast.

The film will begin production later this year. A Wrinkle in Time is the first in a series, so the film could be the beginning of a franchise. With DuVernay at the helm, it couldn’t be in safer hands. Just ask J.J. Abrams.
