Bottoms‘ First Trailer Gets Violent, Horny, and Generally Crazy

Following its SXSW premiere earlier this year, the first red-band trailer for Emma Seligman’s Bottoms has arrived.

The film is Seligman’s follow-up to her indie hit Shiva Baby and sees her reteaming with Rachel Sennott as she and Ayo Edebiri star as two high school misfits who decide to start a fight club in an effort to hook up with their school’s cheerleaders, because…that tracks? The trailer gets to the heart of the mania stemming from such an utterly bizarre premise.

The buzz surrounding Bottoms from its initial premieres has been strong, with early reactions emphasizing its fresh take on the teen sex comedy. Fittingly, the trailer evokes the feeling of the film’s ‘90s and ‘00s forebears updated for 2023 sensibilities, which is to say: a lot crazier and a lot gayer. From the opening line of the principal calling the “ugly, untalented gays” to his office, clips of girls beating the absolute hell out of each other, and the fact that NFL running back Marshawn Lynch appears as a witless history teacher that gets roped into the club, Bottoms seems to thrive on insane. 

Get ready to feel empowered when Bottoms hits theaters in limited release on August 25th before expanding on September 1st, 2023.
