Hot Damn, Joss Whedon is Bringing Batgirl to the Big Screen
Image via DC ComicsWell, well, well … Joss Whedon is crossing his streams and finally bringing Batgirl to the big screen in her first-ever standalone film. According to Variety, Whedon is all set to write, direct and produce the film, which will be a part of the ever-expanding DC Extended Universe.
This is exciting news, maybe even the best news, especially for the much-maligned DCEU. A Batgirl film with Whedon at the helm is a dream come true, because he won’t easily bend to the whims of studio execs telling him to put her in a skimpy bustier and high heels. Whedon’s Barbara Gordon will be kicking major ass and taking names, just like the Batgirl we deserve. We’re still in the very, very early days of this project, obviously, so next to nothing is known at this point. But there is one thing for certain: Joss Whedon will make us fall dearly in love with someone and then brutally murder them in the final act. Because, for some reason, he hates us.
It’ll be interesting to see where Batgirl will stand in the greater DCEU, as many characters are getting their own films within the next few years. As the daughter of Commissioner Jim Gordon, will we see J.K. Simmons reprise his role as Gordon, soon to debut in Zack Snyder’s Justice League? Will she be featured alongside the overly dour Batfleck? Is this the end of the Snyder-verse as we know it? So many questions, so few answers. Unfortunately, the only thing we can do is wait, and maybe pass a few minutes of the time with the Justice League trailer.
