Blade Runner Sequel Title, Premiere Date Revealed

Movies News blade runner

The long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi classic Blade Runner won’t keep us waiting much longer. Blade Runner 2049, produced by Alcon Entertainment, hits theaters one year from today on Oct. 6, 2017.

The film’s appropriately excellent cast includes the venerable Harrison Ford, reprising his role as protagonist (and possible replicant) Rick Deckard, along with Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, Mackenzie Davis, Ana de Armas, Lennie James, Barkhad Abdi and others, with direction from Denis Villeneuve of Sicario (and soon, Arrival) fame. Hampton Fancher, who adapted the original film from Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, will return to script the sequel alongside Michael Green (American Gods).

Plot details are all too scarce at the moment, but the film’s title suggests that it takes place 30 years after the events of the original Blade Runner, which was set in 2019. The film’s previously reported premiere date was set just one year earlier than that—Jan. 12, 2018—so it’s exciting to hear that Blade Runner 2049 will arrive ahead of schedule.
