Dexter Fletcher Is Bryan Singer’s Replacement on the Queen Biopic

After a tumultuous production on Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody that led to the sacking of director Bryan Singer, Fox has found their replacement in Dexter Fletcher (per Deadline ).

An actor who has had roles in films such as The Elephant Man, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Kick-Ass, Fletcher has directed films including Wild Bill and Eddie the Eagle. Fletcher comes on board to the project with two weeks left scheduled in principal photography. The director will continue to helm the project in post-production, with the studio still hoping for a Dec. 2018 release date.

We reported previously that Singer was let go from the project after extended absences from the set, and reported clashes with the film’s Freddie Mercury, Rami Malek. Singer denied these claims and accused Fox of not allowing leave time for him to attend to a sick parent. Whether Singer, Fletcher or both will receive credit under the Directors Guild of America rules is unknown; the DGA has a similar predicament with the replacement of Phil Lord and Chris Miller by Ron Howard on Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Should all go according to plan, expect Bohemian Rhapsody on Christmas Day, 2018.
