Channing Tatum (Hail, Caeser!, Step Up) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (500 Days of Summer) are giving us a sequel to their 2013 Oscar’s opening number with their newest project from Universal.
The two actors are set to co-star in an untitled musical comedy, produced by Marc Platt, the man who put Wicked on Broadway. Platt will work alongside Adam Siegel from Marc Platt Productions. Tatum and Gordon-Levitt will also act as producers under their own production companies, Free Association and hitRECord Films, respectively. Michael Bacall (21 Jump Street) will pen the script.
Although Universal is largely tight-lipped about the project’s details, they have shared that the musical comedy features two pilots on “a misadventure.” The movie is expected to be rated R.
Both Tatum and Gordon-Levitt are multi-talented celebrities and have previously worked together. They first teamed up for 2005’s thriller Havoc, and then again in 2008’s war drama Stop-Loss.
The idea for the film came from the minds of Gordon-Levitt and Bacall, who worked together on Manic over a decade ago. To finish out this weird Bermuda triangle of creative connections, Bacall last worked with Tatum on both 21 Jump Street movies.
