Christian Bale Is Practically Unrecognizable While Prepping to Play Dick Cheney

Photo by Alberto E. Rodriguez/GettyAdam McKay, the acclaimed director behind films as disparate as The Big Short and Step Brothers, is making a Dick Cheney biopic at Paramount, and his star is already displaying an impressive (if characteristic) degree of dedication in portraying the former vice president.
Christian Bale, who appeared at the Toronto International Film Festival to promote Scott Cooper’s Hostiles, has packed on the pounds to portray Cheney, striking a nearly unrecognizable figure in red carpet photos like the one above. When asked about the details of his physical transformation, a blonde-eyebrowed Bale told Variety, “I’ve just eaten a lot of pies.”
McKay’s still-untitled film has yet to begin production, but it’s shaping up to be a must-see. Starring alongside Bale are Steve Carrell as former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Amy Adams as Cheney’s wife Lynne, while Sam Rockwell is in talks to play President George W. Bush.
