Sylvester Stallone Will Direct Creed 2
Photos by Alberto E. Rodriguez/GettyAdonis Creed is coming back to the big screen, and Rocky Balboa is, too—both in front of and behind the camera. The sequel to Ryan Coogler’s Creed will be helmed by Sylvester Stallone, who confirmed on Instagram that he will direct star Michael B. Jordan.

That “one more round” line is a bit scary—Rocky already had a close call in Creed, so we hope that Stallone isn’t directing his own exit from the franchise. Stallone wrote all six core Rocky films, directing the second, third, fourth and sixth films. Coogler and Aaron Covington co-wrote Creed, while Stallone wrote the Creed 2 script by hand.

You’ll notice that the Instagram post (and the scribbles on Stallone’s notebook) confirm that Rocky IV rival and Apollo Creed killer Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) will be a part of the story.
It’s disappointing to not see Coogler back at the helm, but it makes sense, with the director preparing Black Panther (also starring Jordan) for release on Feb. 16, 2018, and with Wrong Answer being his next project in line (again, starring Jordan). Stallone was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars for his performance in Creed.
