Machete Actor Danny Trejo Saves a Child from a Car Crash Like a Boss

Machete actor Danny Trejo pulled a real-life stunt on Wednesday, Aug. 7, rescuing a young special-needs child from an overturned vehicle and proving what we already knew: Trejo is a badass.

The Machete Kills star was in the Sylmar neighborhood of northern Los Angeles when two vehicles collided nearby, rolling one onto its roof, and trapping a boy and his grandmother inside. Trejo and a bystander acted swiftly, reaching through broken windows to unbuckle the boy’s car seat and set him free—because that’s just what heroes do.

Trejo then distracted the boy from the scene, keeping him calm as firefighters worked to rescue his grandmother from the wreckage. “He was panicked. I said OK, we have to use our superpowers. So he screamed ‘superpowers’ and we started yelling ‘superpowers,’” Trejo told ABC7. “I said do this, with the muscles. He said ‘muscles.’ We got kind of a bond. I kept facing him away from the accident.” In total, three people were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

But like all the best heroes, Trejo remains humble.

“Everything good that has happened to me has happened as a direct result of helping someone else. Everything,” the 75-year-old told reporters.

So go ahead and stream a few Spy Kids flicks tonight; Trejo’s earned it.
