X-Men Producer Simon Kinberg Shares Details on “Much Darker” Deadpool 2 Follow-up, X-Force

Even though Deadpool 2 is still in production and doesn’t even have an official full-length trailer yet, there are already plans for a follow-up to the Ryan Reynolds vehicle.

In an interview with Deadline, X-Men producer and writer Simon Kinberg revealed that 20th Century Fox is already working on a full-slate of mutant movies including: New Mutants, a Gambit movie with Channing Tatum, Deadpool 2 and an X-Force movie where Deadpool and Cable will team up.

According to Kinberg, that particular pairing will likely be “much darker and have an R-rated decibel.” Kinberg, who is rumored to write and direct the next X-Men flick, says in the interview that certain X-Men characters might drift through X-Force, but it’s a separate entity from the X-Men. “There is a larger architecture to tell these stories in. I talk to the studio all the time about this and there is a plan for how these movies can connect and be a part of a larger narrative.”

Though there aren’t detailed timetables for everything yet, Kinberg repeatedly points out that the runaway success of the R-rated Deadpool and Logan allows the studio to take more risks with what it’s doing. So the release dates might not matter as much as making work that captures a similar spirit to those films. Stay tuned for more details, and check out the first teaser for Deadpool 2 here.
