Brooklyn Director John Crowley to Helm Film Adaptation of Donna Tartt’s The Goldfinch
Photo by Nicholas Hunt/GettyBrooklyn director John Crowley will helm the film adaptation of Donna Tartt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Goldfinch, Deadline reports. Here’s to hoping that Crowley does the novel justice, especially since he garnered such high praise (and a Best Picture Oscar nomination) for adapting the novel Brooklyn into a film.
Peter Straughan, who wrote Frank and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, has already been confirmed to write the script for The Goldfinch’s big-screen transformation.
Tartt’s novel chronicles the story of young Theo Decker, who is grieving after his mother dies in a tragic terrorist attack in a museum they were visiting. His only reminder of her is a small painting that he carries with him as he bounces from home to home in his adolescence and into adulthood. He eventually becomes tied up in a controversy surrounding a piece of art missing from the Met.
Warner Bros. signed on to adapt the bestseller in July 2014.
