Javier Bardem in Talks to Join Dune‘s Increasingly Star-Studded Cast

While circumstances aren’t exactly peachy here on planet Earth, they’re shaping up pretty well on the fictional planet of Arrakis. Oscar winner Javier Bardem is in negotiations to join the cast of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, THR reports.

The good news just keeps coming, as before January ended, it was revealed that Oscar Isaac is in talks to play Duke Leto, father of Timothee Chalamet’s Paul Atreides. If Bardem does indeed sign on, he’ll portray Stilgar, leader of the Fremen tribes on Arrakis and an ally of Paul Atreides.

The sci-fi classic hasn’t had much luck on the big screen before, but (fingers crossed) the stars seem to have aligned for Villeneuve’s adaptation. Besides Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible—Fallout), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Stellan Skarsgard (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again) and Charlotte Rampling (Red Sparrow) have been added to the bill. Zendaya may also join the movie as Chani, a Fremen warrior, according to Collider.

The complete cast will hopefully be finalized soon, as shooting for Dune is expected to begin in Budapest and Jordan this spring.
