Jude Law Will Play a Young Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts Sequel

In what is some of the most exciting news of the day, Variety has reported that Jude Law will be joining the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel, playing a younger Dumbledore. David Yates will return to direct the J.K. Rowling-penned screenplay, and Eddie Redmayne will be back as the nervous, whispering Newt Scamander.

The Fantastic Beasts sequel is set decades before Harry Potter, at which time Dumbledore will be serving as the transfiguration professor at Hogwarts, which is really exciting, because let’s be honest … Jude Law is perfect, and Dumbledore is a perfect role for him. Yates weighed in on the exciting casting news, saying, “Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I have long admired, and I’m looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him. I know he will brilliantly capture all the unexpected facets of Albus Dumbledore as J.K. Rowling reveals this very different time in his life.” Johnny Depp will also be returning as the villain Grindelwald, a role that he literally morphed away from Colin Farrell in the first film.

The Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel is set for a November 2018 release. Production gets started this summer.
